Ten questions drawn from every skill below.

Current, voltage and resistance (V = IR)

CCSS NGSS.HS-PS3-1England: KS3 Physics: Electricity and electromagnetism (current electricity)England: KS4 Combined Science: Electricity

Example

A current of 2 A flows through a 12 Ω resistor. What is the potential difference (voltage) across it, in V?

  1. V = 2 × 12 = 24
  2. So the answer is: 24 V

Answer: 24 V

Series and parallel circuits

CCSS NGSS.HS-PS3-1England: KS3 Physics: Electricity and electromagnetism (current electricity)England: KS4 Combined Science: Electricity

Example

Two resistors of 8 Ω and 14 Ω are connected in series. What is their total resistance, in Ω?

  1. 8 + 14 = 22
  2. So the answer is: 22 Ω

Answer: 22 Ω

Current and voltage rules in series and parallel circuits

CCSS NGSS.MS-PS2-3CCSS NGSS.HS-PS3-5England: KS3 Physics: Electricity and electromagnetismEngland: GCSE Combined Science: Electricity (series and parallel)

Example

Two lamps are connected in series to a 12 V battery. The voltage across the first lamp is 8 V. What is the voltage across the second lamp, in V?

  1. 12 − 8 = 4
  2. So the answer is: 4 V

Answer: 4 V
