Mixed review

Ten questions drawn from every skill below.

Mass and weight (W = mg)

CCSS NGSS.MS-PS2-4CCSS NGSS.HS-PS2-4England: KS3 Physics: Motion and forces (forces)England: KS4 Combined Science: Forces

Example

What is the weight of a 75 kg object on Earth? Use g = 9.8 N/kg.

  1. W = 75 × 9.8 = 735
  2. So the answer is: 735 N

Answer: 735 N

Pressure = force ÷ area

CCSS NGSS.MS-PS2-2England: KS3 Physics: Motion and forces (pressure)England: GCSE Physics: Forces (pressure)

Example

A force of 40 N acts on an area of 2 m². What is the pressure, in pascals (Pa)?

  1. 40 ÷ 2 = 20
  2. So the answer is: 20 Pa

Answer: 20 Pa

Stretching springs: extension and Hooke's law

CCSS NGSS.MS-PS2-2CCSS NGSS.HS-PS2-1England: KS3 Physics: Motion and forces (forces and elasticity)England: GCSE Combined Science: Forces (required practical: force and extension)

Example

A spring is 15 cm long. When a weight is hung on it, it is 17 cm long. What is the extension, in cm?

  1. 17 − 15 = 2
  2. So the answer is: 2 cm

Answer: 2 cm
