Ten questions drawn from every skill below.
Parts of a wave
CCSS NGSS.MS-PS4-1CCSS NGSS.4-PS4-1England: KS3 Physics: Waves (observed waves)England: KS4 Combined Science: Waves in matter
Example
8 waves pass a point in 4 seconds. What is the frequency, in hertz (Hz)?
- 8 ÷ 4 = 2
- So the answer is: 2 Hz
Answer: 2 Hz
Frequency and amplitude of sound waves
CCSS NGSS.MS-PS4-1England: KS3 Physics: Waves (sound)
Example
A guitar string vibrates 400 times in 4 seconds. What is the frequency of the sound, in hertz (Hz)?
- 400 ÷ 4 = 100
- So the answer is: 100 Hz
Answer: 100 Hz
Builds on: Pitch and loudness, Parts of a wave
The law of reflection: calculate angles
CCSS NGSS.MS-PS4-2England: KS3 Physics: Waves (light)
Example
A ray of light hits a flat mirror with an angle of incidence of 35°. What is the angle of reflection, in degrees?
- angle of incidence = angle of reflection
- So the answer is: 35 °
Answer: 35 °
Builds on: Reflection of light
Leads to: Refraction: refractive index, Snell's law and critical angle
