Mixed review

Ten questions drawn from every skill below.

Horizontal projectiles: time of flight and range

CCSS NGSS.HS-PS2-1England: A level Physics: Projectile motion (extension)

Example

A ball is kicked horizontally off a cliff 45 m high. Ignoring air resistance, how long does it take to reach the beach below, in s? (g = 9.8 m/s²; give 2 decimal places)

  1. t = √(2 × 45 ÷ 9.8) = 3.03
  2. So the answer is: 3.03 s

Answer: 3.03 s

Newton's law of gravitation and field strength

CCSS NGSS.HS-PS2-4England: A level Physics: Gravitational fields (extension)

Example

One of two masses is multiplied by 2 and the distance stays the same. By what factor does the gravitational force change? (F = G m₁ m₂ ÷ r²)

  1. × 2
  2. So the answer is: 2

Answer: 2

Circular motion and centripetal force

CCSS NGSS.HS-PS2-1CCSS NGSS.HS-PS2-4England: A level Physics: Circular motion (extension)

Example

A 1 kg object moves in a circle of radius 2 m at 5 m/s. What centripetal force is needed, in N? (F = m v² ÷ r)

  1. 1 × 5² ÷ 2 = 12.5
  2. So the answer is: 12.5 N

Answer: 12.5 N
