True or false quiz generator

Pick a subject, a grade and the skills you taught, and get a fresh set of true or false statements in seconds, or type your own. Play them on screen one at a time with instant marking, or print a sheet with an answer key.

2. Grade

US grades (K = kindergarten). England: Year = grade + 1.

3. Tick the skills (or none for the whole grade)

Number sense
Addition and subtraction
Multiplication and division
Fractions
Decimals and percentages
Measurement
Geometry
Statistics and probability
Algebra

About half the statements are true. The false ones use the mistakes children really make, like 7 × 8 = 54.

How to use the true or false quiz generator

  1. Choose math, English or science and a grade, then tick the skills you want (or none, for a mix of the whole grade). Or switch to "Type my own" and write one statement per line.
  2. Press "Make the statements". You get a mixed set, about half true and half false, made fresh from Eurekami's question bank.
  3. Press "Play online" to answer them one at a time with instant marking and a score, or print the sheet: students circle True or False, and the answer key is on its own page.

Tips for teachers and parents

  • Use it as a warm-up: put the quiz on the board and have everyone show thumbs up for true, thumbs down for false before you reveal the answer.
  • Ask students to fix every false statement so it becomes true. Correcting a wrong answer is harder, and more useful, than spotting it.
  • The false statements are built from common slips (an answer one off, digits swapped, the wrong operation), so a wrong "true" tells you exactly which mistake to reteach.
  • When you write your own, keep each statement to one idea and avoid "always" and "never" unless that is the point: they give the answer away.
  • Print a new version with "New statements" for a retake or for neighbors, so nobody can copy.

Why true or false questions work

A true or false question is quick to answer, so a class can do ten in a few minutes and you see at once who is secure. Because a guess is right half the time, use them for practice and checking, not for grades, and always ask for the reason or the correction. Children who can say why a statement is false understand the idea, not just the answer.
