Lessons
Lessons you can touch
Children don't just watch. They slice the fraction bar, slide along the number line, balance the scale and build the sentence, while a friendly voice talks them through it.
Drawn live, so the math is always right
Every lesson is drawn in the browser from the actual numbers, not recorded as a video. The 7 × 8 on the screen is always 56, and your child can tap and drag everything they see.
Because nothing is pre-recorded, a picture can change as your child works. Shade another slice and the fraction updates. Move a weight and the balance tips. The idea is to see why a rule works, not just hear it.
How a lesson works
- A narrator introduces one idea with a picture on screen.
- Your child does something with it: shades part of a bar, moves a point, drags a word into place.
- Most scenes end with a small task or question, with a hint if the first try misses.
- The lesson builds in short steps, so each scene leans on the one before.
Inside a real lesson: unit fractions
Here is how the grade 3 lesson on unit fractions goes. A bar cut into 4 equal parts appears, and your child taps to shade just one. The narrator explains that one part out of 4 equal parts is one quarter, written 1/4, and that the bottom number says how many equal parts there are.
Next comes a pizza with 8 equal slices: shade 1/8. Then 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 of the same bar sit side by side, so your child can see that more parts means smaller parts. Finally they answer two questions on their own: which is bigger, 1/3 or 1/6, and what fraction of a bar is shaded.
Tools you'll find in the lessons
- Number lines and base-ten blocks
- Fraction bars and pizzas
- Arrays, times tables and area models
- Balance scales for equations
- Coordinate planes and graphs
- Sentence builders and word tiles
- Circuits, particle boxes and labeled science diagrams
Watch an example
Every skill on the map also has Watch an example: a narrated, step-by-step worked example. It stops at each step to ask "What comes next?", so your child has to think about the method rather than sit back.
When lessons show up
Your child can open lessons on their own at any time. They also appear inside Daily Practice when a skill gets two misses, so a short explanation arrives at the moment it's most useful.
English and Spanish
Every lesson is available in English and Spanish, with the same pictures and a narrator in each language. Families who speak Spanish at home can learn a new idea in Spanish, then practice it in either language.
Ages and subjects
Lessons cover all three subjects. In math they run from counting and place value through fractions, times tables and equations to coordinate graphs. In English, children build sentences with word tiles and see how a change of word changes the meaning. In science, they wire circuits, look inside particle boxes and label diagrams.
What lessons aren't
They aren't long videos to leave running. Each lesson is short and needs your child's hands on the screen, which is why it works best with you nearby for the youngest learners.
