Warm-up · 6 min
- Quick retrieval from earlier learning (Opposites; Synonyms). Students answer on mini whiteboards.
- Show answers together and note who needs support in the main task.

- Example: Which word means the OPPOSITE of "gift"?
- Step 1: "gift" and "debt" are antonyms.
- Step 2: So the answer is: debt
- Answer: debt
- Pause after each step and ask a student to say what comes next.
We do: guided practice · 12 min
- Do these together. Students try each step on whiteboards before you reveal it.
- Use the hints as prompts rather than giving the answer.

- Which word is most nearly OPPOSITE in meaning to "conceal"? (hide / destroy / defend / reveal) → revealPrompt: Work out what the word means first.
